A typical high power rifle match is conducted on the 200 yard range at the Santa Clara County Shooting Sports facility. The facility does not have pits. In order to conduct a match in an efficient manner the following changes have been made to the typical course of fire:
| Five (5) sighter shots (any position) single loaded shots in 5 minutes. | (commands) |
| 1. Ten (10) standing (off-hand) single loaded shots in 10 minutes. | (commands) |
| 2. Ten (10) rapid fire standing to sitting shots in 60 seconds. | (commands) |
| 3. Ten (10) rapid fire standing to prone shots in 70 seconds. | (commands) |
| 4. Twenty (20) prone single loaded shots in 20 minutes. | (commands) |
The "Off hand" position.
Rapid fire sitting
Prone
There are a possible total of 500 points during the match. Due to range restraints all positions are shot at a distance of 200 yards. The scoring circles are reduced at stages 3 and 4 to simulate 300 yard and 600 yard distances normally encountered in "across the course" matches.
Shooters compete against others at their same skill level.
Matches start at approximately 8 AM and typically finish around noon. A score sheet listing each shooter's score and ranking is mailed to each participant.
